Help us create a federated Twitter/Facebook clone so anyone can create their own social network and connect with anyone and everyone they want.
The Fediverse is federated group of websites that have elected to connect their websites together sharing users and data with each other as if they were all on one website. These websites, also called instances, hubs or servers, and can be used for various types of web publishing (i.e. social networking, microblogging or websites) and file hosting. Users can create an account on whatever hub they desire based on the rules and administration of that particular hub. These users are able to communicate with each other over the boundaries of the particular website they registered on because the softwares running on the hubs support one or more communication protocols which follow the Fediway protocol.
While users can communicate beyond the boundaries of the particular hub they registered on each hub is separate and independent from the others and responsible for their own data and moderation. No personal identifiable information (PII) is shared between hubs and no hub has any power over another. However, each hub can chose which other hubs/communities they want to associate with. If the administrators of different hubs chose to connect with each other they are then connected and can operate as one website.
Federated networks are resistant to financial, technical and organizational issues, as well as government interference, due to its decentralized nature. It is much easier to attack one or two large websites than thousands of smaller websites.
